The Company - Background

Ian Francis

In his senior roles as an area manager of the Orange mobile network and as head of a project delivery department, Ian Francis quickly began to appreciate the need to have effective and tested Business Continuity Plans (BCP) in place. On Ian’s promotion to Head of Business Continuity Planning for Orange UK, he successfully developed and implemented strategies, plans and testing programmes that enabled the company to achieve BS 7799 in 2003. This success led to a global role as leader of the international business continuity programme for the Orange Group, a post he held for two years. Ian Francis started his working career serving a three year apprenticeship with the Royal Air Force. As avionics trade manager and as the leader of aircraft crash teams he gained first hand practical experience in crisis management principles.

Now with his own business, providing consultancy and training, he shares his experience and methods with both Multinational to Small to Medium Enterprises. This support enables companies to develop their own Business Continuity strategies, plans and tests. By providing support to businesses, emergency services and councils he is now focusing on ways to assist in the implementation of the Civil Contingencies Act. This is so that they can protect their key processes in the most cost and resource effective way. From planning and facilitating 'walk-through' and ‘live’ tests, performing quick and effective Business Impact Analyses (BIA) through to developing Crisis Management plans, Ian has the experience and proven methodology to help.

Areas of Expertise

With his background, Ian has considerable experience in all areas of Business Continuity Planning (BCP), Disaster Recovery (DR) and Crisis Management (CM). Recent assignments include:

  • Business Impact Analyses (BIA) including validation of findings with executive management.
  • Development of DR and CM plans. Exercising and testing the plans. Many of these plans have been used effectively in ‘live’ incidents.
  • BCP audits of suppliers to determine the ‘preparedness’ of companies that organisations depend on.
  • Training and mentoring team members new to BCP.
  • Delivery of presentations and reports to senior management on the status of BCP in the organisation.
  • Implementation of maintenance procedures to deliver effective governance.
